Why First Article things matter. - by eric tessaro

What are first article things?

The Apostles'  Creed is made up of 3 articles.  The first article is "I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth."   First article things refer to everything God has created and how he cares for them.  Earthy stuff; why do those matter?

Typically we relegate to earthly things such things as water, animals, land, local ecosystems.  That is fine and well and it is also encumbant upon us to care for them wisely; (ref. Gen. 1:16-17)

I almost entitled this entry, "Why first article things matter-- why trees matter."  However the connotation of tree-hugging caused me to think otherwise.  Not because tree-hugging is necessarily bad but because it would shift the focus and hinder the whole point of this article.

Why do first article things matter?  Gen. 1:16-17 is reason enough, but more importantly WE TOO are first article things; WE TOO are creations, creatures of our creator.  That's why first article things matter-- because you are a first article thing for whom God cares and sustains.

Coming soon;  what does it mean that WE TOO are first article things?
