I've been asked this once or twice...
I've been asked this question once or twice. I suppose you've been asked, thought about or have a favorite Bible verse also. This would be a good place to let us know your favorite Bible verse. Our favorite Bible verses sometimes say something about our relationship with God.
I've always been hesistant about answering this question because I'm so sure I have a favorite Bible verse. Depending on the day and the situation my favorite Bible verse usually changes. Reading Martin Luther's writings you'll bound to come across something like, "...and this greatest verse in the Bible..." or "...this most important verse for me...". The first time I read something like that I was very excited to see what Luther's favorite verse was. But turnining a couple of pages Luther says the same thing again, he has 100's of "...this most important verse..." quotes in his writings. Having a favorite verse or favorite verses, either way share some of yours with us.
I have 3 foundational verses that I really like. A foreboding verse, one that keeps me thinking the right way and hopefully saying the right things is Isaiah 5:20, "Woe to those who call evil good and good evil..."
Another favorite verse is Hosea 11:9, "...I am God and not a man, the Holy One in your midst (this should make us afraid of him), and I will not come in wrath. (I will be sure to hold him to his promise, this is good news.)
My 3rd favorite verse is John 20:17. Jesus has been resurrected, is speaking to Mary Magdalene and says, "...but go to my brothers and say to them, "I am ascending to my Fatyher and your Father, to my God and your God." What I like most about this verse is that despite everything the disciples have done with Jesus during his arrest and death,-- sleep, run away, deny, betray- Jesus still calls them "brothers" and assures them that their Father and God is still the same person.
What's yours?
